Total 5 day expected snowfall - all snowfall shown expected to accumulate From Friday evening.
Deep low pressure south of New Zealand will move east on Saturday, with winds easing and showers becoming confined to the far south of the South Island. Upper Hills and mountain passes may see a little further snow before snow levels rise later this morning and throughout the day.
🌥️Nelson and Marlborough: High cloud, but mostly settled conditions. Strong west to southwest winds, gusting 90kph in exposed places in the morning before easing.
🌦️ Westland and Fiordland, including Canterbury Divide, High Country: Cloudy periods, with occasional showers. Snow flurries possible to 900 metres south of Arthurs Pass. Strong to gale W/SW winds, easing.
🌥️Canterbury Plains, including Christchurch: Cloudy periods, but mostly dry. Strong to gale westerlies, gusting 100kph in exposed places before easing by early afternoon.
🌦️Central Otago: High Cloud, and a few showers, especially in the south. Snow possible to 600 metres in the morning, rising above 1000 metres in the afternoon. Strong southwesterlies, easing by early afternoon.
🌧️ Coastal Otago, including Dunedin, Clutha: Heavy, squally showers with possible hail. Gale southwesterlies, showers and winds both easing later.
🌧️ Southland: Rain, heavy at times easing to heavy squally showers in the morning. Chance of hail in the morning. Snow possible above 600 metres. Gale southwesterlies, easing later.
